Welcome Message
Welcome to BART LAB, where we strive to enhance partnerships between humans (surgeons) and machines (computers and robots).
Our diverse range of research projects aims to harness the capabilities of both to perform tasks better than either can achieve alone. From Robot-Assisted Surgery to Rehabilitation Engineering and Robotics in Hospital Logistics, we are dedicated to advancing biomedical engineering and revolutionizing healthcare practices through innovative collaborations.

Goal & Overview
Center for Biomedical and Robotics Technology (BART LAB) is a collaborative medical/engineering research center for medical robotics and computer-integrated surgical technology with missions to conduct research, to develop and commercialize prototypes, and to create research and knowledge networks in the areas. The goal of BART LAB is to increase the ability, potential and efficiency of the research and development on various fields in Biomedical Engineering Technology in Thailand. This also responds to the government’s R&D strategies.
BART LAB has been founded in 2004 by collaboration among government agencies and universities in Thailand, which are MTEC, NSTDA, Mahidol University, Chulalongkorn University, Thammasart University, Institute of Field Robotics (FIBO) – King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi, and Chiangmai University. BART LAB is also academically supported by several leading foreign institutes, such as, Johns Hopkins University, Vanderbilt University, University of Pennsylvania – USA, Imperial College – UK and University of Kyoto and Tsukuba University – Japan. In addition, BART LAB is also collaborating with private and industrial sectors in developing and commercializing prototypes.
BART LAB is located in the Engineering Building 2, Faculty of Engineering, Mahidol University, Salaya Campus. The main office and simulated operation room (SimOR) are located on the 4th floor. The conference room, workshop and the branch office are located on the 3rd floor. The radiology lab is located on the 1st floor.
BART LAB research topics include development of new surgical techniques, surgical guidance systems, robot-assisted surgery, other medical robotics and mechatronics in surgery (surgical applications are orthopedics, dental and laparoscopic surgery), medical signal processing, myoelectric prosthesis design and controls, and brain computer interface. Besides, BART LAB is functioning as a resource center for related technologies.
