Thailand Wins the Bid to Host IEEE ICRA 2030 — The World’s Largest Robotics Conference

6 June 2026 – Vienna, Austria

In a historic milestone for Thailand’s robotics and artificial intelligence community, Thailand has officially been selected to host the IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation (ICRA) 2030, the world’s premier and largest conference in robotics and AI.

The successful bid was presented in Vienna, Austria, before the Administrative Committee (AdCom) of the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society (IEEE RAS). Representing Thailand were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Jackrit Suthakorn and Dr. Nantida Nillahoot from the Center for Biomedical and Robotics Technology (BART LAB), Mahidol University, together with Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) representatives and an international team of distinguished supporters.

The Thai delegation received invaluable support from some of the most influential figures in modern robotics:

  • Prof. Oussama Khatib, Stanford University, USA
  • Prof. Oliver Brock, Technical University of Berlin, Germany
  • Prof. Gregory Chirikjian, Johns Hopkins University, USA, doctoral advisor of Dr. Jackrit Suthakorn

Following the final presentation and evaluation process, Thailand was selected as the host country for ICRA 2030, securing the right to welcome the global robotics community to Bangkok.

ICRA is widely recognized as the most prestigious international conference in robotics and automation. Each year, it brings together leading researchers, engineers, innovators, entrepreneurs, policymakers, and industry leaders from around the world to present the latest breakthroughs in robotics, artificial intelligence, autonomous systems, medical robotics, manufacturing automation, and emerging technologies.

The 2030 edition is expected to attract approximately 12,000 participants, making it one of the largest scientific and technological events ever hosted in Thailand.

The successful bid represents a collaborative national effort led by:

  • IEEE Robotics and Automation Society (RAS) Thailand Chapter
  • Faculty of Engineering, Mahidol University
  • Thailand Medical Robotics and AI Association (TMRAI)

with support from leading universities and organizations across Thailand, including:

  • Mahidol University
  • Asian Institute of Technology (AIT)
  • Chulalongkorn University
  • FIBO, King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi
  • King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang
  • Chiang Mai University
  • Prince of Songkla University
  • Thammasat University
  • National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA)
  • Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI)

Hosting ICRA 2030 will place Thailand at the center of the global robotics ecosystem and provide an unprecedented opportunity for Thai students, researchers, startups, industry leaders, and policymakers to engage directly with the world’s leading experts and institutions.

For BART LAB and Mahidol University, this achievement reflects decades of dedication to advancing robotics, biomedical engineering, and innovation. More importantly, it marks a new chapter for Thailand as a global destination for cutting-edge research, technology development, and international collaboration.

The world’s robotics community is coming to Thailand.

ICRA 2030 will be in Thailand.
