BART LAB Student Wins Best Student Paper Award at IEEE ROBIO 2024
December 12, 2024 – Pan-Pisit Komonsuwan, a student in the MD-MEng dual-degree program at Mahidol University, under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Jackrit Suthakorn, was awarded the prestigious Best Student Paper Award at the 20th IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Biomimetics (IEEE ROBIO 2024). His paper was selected from among 399 submissions from around the world.
The award-winning research, titled
“Intra-operative Trajectory Realignment Algorithm for Minimizing Pedicle Screw Misplacement in Cervical Spinal Fusion,”
presents a novel algorithm to improve surgical precision in spinal procedures by reducing the risk of pedicle screw misalignment during cervical spinal fusion surgeries.
The paper’s authors include:
- Pan-Pisit Komonsuwan, MD-MEng Student, Ramathibodi Hospital
- Prof. Sorayouth Chumnanvej, MD (Co-Advisor, Ramathibodi)
- Dr. Shen Treratanakulchai (Co-Advisor, Mahidol BME)
- Assoc. Prof. Dr. Jackrit Suthakorn (Advisor, BART LAB)
This recognition highlights the strength of the MD-MEng program, the impact of BART LAB’s interdisciplinary research, and the potential of young Thai researchers on the global stage in robotics and biomedical innovation.
