Mahidol Biomedical Engineering Strengthens Collaboration with NUS and NTU, Singapore
19 September 2025 – Singapore
The Department of Biomedical Engineering, Mahidol University, led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Jackrit Suthakorn, Director of BART LAB, visited Singapore to strengthen academic collaboration with Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and National University of Singapore (NUS).
At NTU, the delegation was warmly welcomed by long-time collaborator Prof. Ang Wei Tech, Director of the Rehabilitation Robotics Lab. The team visited the Rehabilitation Gait Analysis Laboratory and Robotics Research Centre, which featured impressive projects beyond rehabilitation robotics, including insect-inspired rescue robots, magnetically controlled micro-robots for targeted drug delivery, and other cutting-edge innovations.
At NUS, the team was hosted by Prof. James Goh, founding chair of the NUS Department of Biomedical Engineering. A special joint meeting and exchange session was held between Mahidol and NUS faculty members to discuss renewing the long-standing joint student project program, which sends teams of BME students from both universities to collaborate on real hospital-based clinical engineering problems. The program had been paused during the pandemic and is now being revitalized.
During the visit, the Mahidol delegation also reconnected with several alumni working and studying in Singapore, including Mr. Ming Pichak, a recent Royal Scholarship recipient from HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, who is now pursuing graduate studies at NTU.
A total of 12 faculty members and students from Mahidol BME joined the Singapore visit. Special thanks to Dr. Worakorn (James) Charoensuk, Head of the Department of Biomedical Engineering, for initiating this collaborative mission.
